Care Instructions

Lighting: It can be grown outdoors in full sun or shade, or indoors with medium to full light (a window sill works nice).

Temperature: Will tolerate a variety of growing conditions although it must be protected from cold temperatures (below 50).

Watering: Will tolerate different watering strategies.  The soil can be kept moist at all times or allowed to dry out completely then remoistened.  Although be careful, if kept dry for over 12 hours the plant will die.  One suggestion is to leave the bonsai in a tray of water if you will not be able to care for it for extended periods of time (soda bottle cap works well).  The pot has a hole in the bottom so the soil and tree will wick up the water.  Be careful when pouring water onto the soil as it will tend to wash away.  It may be best to use an eyedropper or similar device.

Pruning and wiring: This is a plant that adapts to almost any style bonsai.

Pinching is the secret to the refinement of any bonsai. Since MicroBonsais are fast growing, it must be pinched frequently during the growing season. Usually once a week is sufficient.  You can use a sharp pair of scissors or you finger nails to pitch back new growth.  Also, you may notice your tree shooting new roots from the branches, this is normal and they can be pruned off.

MicroBonsai can be wired to establish the style you want. Wire should be applied loosely to bend the branches into position.
